LJ's Birth Story

We moved into our new rental home on September 1st. I was trying to get everything unpacked and into place quickly since our new little guy was due 6 weeks later on October 15th.

But he had other plans....The following Wednesday night (the 7th) I started feeling really bad, went to bed early. I woke up at 11:00pm with horrible pains in my back. I walked around upstairs for about 1/2 an hour before I decided to wake Lawrence up. (He had taken NyQuil around 10:30pm and I knew he wasn't feeling well.) I told him about the discomfort I was having and we decided I should call my doctor. Dr. Romberg told me to head into the ER to get checked, just to be on the safe side.

I was miserable by the time we arrived at the ER (11:45pm), the pain in my back was constant at this point! Once I FINALLY got to Labor & Delivery (which was on the other side of the hospital), the nurse checked me and said "You are dilated to 5...you are having a baby tonight!" Lawrence & I looked at each other...this was not part of our plan. We hadn't gotten settled in the house yet, we still had boxes EVERYWHERE!!! Not to mention the fact that I was only 34 weeks!!! At this point hospital staff kept coming in talking to us about what might happen during/after delivery since I was only 34 weeks. I have no idea what they said...the only thing I remember is they talked about postpartum depression ALOT!! (They take postpartum depression very seriously here in Texas since Andrea Yates drowned her 5 children in this state in 2001.)  Finally the anesthesiologist arrived and administered the epidural...then I was able to relax and take in everything that had been going on.

We were able to chat with one of the nurses and found out that she was from the Lafayette, Louisiana.

This was a quick delivery just like the last 2...the nurse came in and said it was time to push. I pushed a total of 3 times. As Dr. Romberg made his way over to me, he commented that the baby was crowning...everything happened so fast at that point...next thing I knew my little guy was in my arms (for a few seconds before they whisked him away to the baby station to check him out). I arrived at the hospital at 11:45pm and Lawrence Joseph Bonvillain IV was born at 3:16am. (The day before his big brother Peyton's birthday.) He spent the next week in NICU.
